Privacy policy
This policy covers the OpenXPlay app for iPhone, published by OpenXPlay.org. Last updated: 5 November 2026.
In short
- OpenXPlay has no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
- What you cast goes straight from your iPhone to the head unit or TV you pick on your local network. It never passes through our servers.
- Logs stay on your iPhone unless you choose to upload them. Uploaded logs are deleted within 72 hours.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your screen. While you broadcast, the picture and sound of your iPhone's screen are sent only to the receiver you chose: a head unit's browser, a CarLink or CarLife head unit, an AirPlay receiver or a DLNA TV, over the local Wi-Fi or Personal Hotspot.
- Settings. Your choices, the head units you used and the names of their Wi-Fi networks are stored on your iPhone. Settings › Reset OpenXPlay removes them.
- Local network and Bluetooth. OpenXPlay searches the local network for head units and TVs, and uses Bluetooth to find CarLink head units and learn how to join their Wi-Fi. This happens only on your devices and is not sent to us.
- Logs. OpenXPlay keeps a diagnostic log on the iPhone. Before anything is written, passwords, keys, PINs, phone numbers, names and precise location are replaced. The log keeps the phone model, iOS version, battery and temperature state, IP addresses and Wi-Fi names, because they are needed to find connection problems.
When data leaves your iPhone
Only in these cases, and only when you start them:
- Uploading logs. In Settings › Logs you can upload a log after agreeing to the terms shown there. It goes to
logs.openxplay.org, run by OpenXPlay.org, and is used only to diagnose the problem you report. Uploads pass through Cloudflare, which forwards them without storing them, to a server that may be in an AWS data center in the United States. Uploads from your app are linked by a random ID that is not derived from your iPhone or car. You can view the receipt for 48 hours, and the log is permanently deleted after at most 72 hours. If you prefer, save the file instead and email it to support@openxplay.org. - Trusted HTTPS. If you set up a trusted address for head-unit browsers, OpenXPlay sends your iPhone's current IP address to the dynamic DNS provider you chose (DuckDNS or dynv6), using the token you entered, and requests a certificate for that name from Let's Encrypt. Their own privacy policies apply. Nothing of this is sent to us.
- Links. Links in the app open openxplay.org, our community pages or GitHub in your browser.
We do not sell or share data with anyone, and the app contains no third-party SDKs that collect data.
Children
OpenXPlay is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.
